Tackifying Aqueous Disperion Based On Terpene Resin & Hydrocarbon Resin

The present invention discloses a process for preparing a surfactant for dispersing a tackifier resin in an aqueous medium which comprises reacting α, β- unsaturated carboxylic acid or anhydride or an ester thereof with a terpene resin or a hydrocarbon resin To form an adduct, and then reacting said adduct with a polyalkylene polyol to form said surfactant. In a related embodiment, the surfactant is subsequently functionalized. Also disclosed are surfactants prepared using the disclosed methods; compositions comprising the disclosed surfactants and tackifier resins; aqueous dispersions comprising the disclosed surfactants, tackifier resins and water; The disclosed aqueous dispersions and polymeric latexes; and pressure sensitive adhesive covers made using the disclosed adhesive compositions.
